How can a 12 year old volunteer with animals?

How can a 12 year old volunteer with animals?
I love animals and I want to work with them, but everyone seems to want to hire just older teens. I am responsible and I have had training experience with animals, but no shelter is letting a 12 year old working with their animals! Does anyone know a place where I could do some volunteer work?

Well,I had the same question and my friend worked at a animal shelter.All you need to do is open the yellow pages and then call each animal shelter in your area.Also ask them if you could walk the dogs and change the animals water.Make sure you tell them that all you want to do is work for just a couple hours and with NO pay!They'd most likely say that it isn't okay unless you bring an adult.But try and see what happens.If you don't happen to find a place to work at,then ask your parents if you can walk neighbors dogs or just take care of their animals while they are in vacation and maybe you could find yourself more responsible and then actually work at a animal shelter.

Thankyou so much for that comment about where can a 12 year old work i am 11 years old and i have been trying to find a place where i can volunter and i dont care if i get money but the problem is that my mom and dad dont like going out but i have a friend who is older then 60 and she loves animals and she used to volunter with animal but then she got tired but now i will ask her about that idea anyway thankyou again for that information! :)

i lov animals so much and i finally hav a chance 2 do something for the summer...but i cant believe how harsh these shelters can be. but still looking i kno dat 1 of these days i will find a volunteer job....wish me luck!!!

i was asking the same question and i have been every where looking for a job and they only want old teenagers why cant we work in a rspca shop or work with animals like i said we all want to and noone can stop us really (ive been to my local council and they recomend working in a charaty shop)!!

well you could go on yellow pages.also consider that teenagers are more mature.also a dog might bitte and a cat might scratch.another thing to consider the animal you want work with.if you have a bunny cinsider working with rabbits.something like that. here are some site i would recommend:kitten rescue.com bunnyluv rescue.com hope you could find something:)

I'm eleven going on twelve and I started my own club for kids who want to volenteer called (ahoa) it stands for animal helpers of america. and website, raised funds and other stuff. You can do that too and donate to animal shelters in need. also i emailed them and they were so thankful that they said i could work when i was thirteen but i'm okay with that. Because i'm already busy my club meets on saterdays. you should ask your parents if you can start a club too. just don't use ahoa. I hope that helped!!!!

Many non profit horse barns will let anyone over the age of ten work, and once you turn 13 they should let you work on your own!

if you go to sumner you should be able to find some work for 15 years and up. sorry i don't know where to find any thing for 10 year olds. I'm 14 and i can't find any thing for me but good luck

Hi, I have been looking for volunteer work for months now andI'm 13...again, everywhere says either 16 or 18 years of age. My mum and I have applied for fostering though but would still like to actually volunteer somewhere but I will try the yellow pages idea :) And Kayla, which RSPCA's and farms said over 14?

If you are good with animals, as you say you are and luv wrking with them you can try rspca and volunteer places. Or you can try dog walking or pet sitting. I pet people are dying to find someone so goodluck!!!!!!!!

Ask ur neighbors if u can walk they dog and that can be ur community service, or u could go to a shelte in Kentucky and be 1 at age 12 but u have to work 2gether wit ur parents

Hey ya I am 12 to and I live in a very small town close by winnipeg manitoba in canada and I cant find anywhere to work There is a 4h club but you dont really work with animals very much I love animals so much and i have been wanting to be a vet since I was 3.I do have experince with animails because right now i have three chinchillas 2 dogs 1 cat and a bird and i used to hae a rabbit and horses andchickens and lots more but there is no where that I can find a place to volunteer and I really want more experiecne and a challenge please any one just give me a few suggestions and maybe i can even help you.

Where can I volunteer for animals? i am 14 years old and i want to become a vet. i have surched and havn't found any orginatization that would allow me to volunteer. Also, my mom won't let me walk any dogs or take care of any animals other than our cat and we arn't even allowed to have him! my name is angel takara and ive always had an erge 2 help animals in need, ive told my mom and she agrees with me.we've had animals all my life. even my mom had animals since she was a baby, we rescue animals my dog MooMoo was saved, we have 6 cats and 4 of them were rescued. to this day we still help animal stay off the street and into a good home,when we give up an animal to a friend we always check what there house looks like and if they can provide food and shelter for that animal. its heartbreaking to give up a beloved animal. when we adopt an animal off the street we take it to the vet and pay what ever we need to save a life ,one of our cats had siezers for 12 hours straite ,and cost us $700 she is now very healthy and has 5month old kittens .we have 9 animals in total 3 dogs and 6 lovely cats

thats totally how i feel! im also 12 going on 13 and im nuts for animals but when i call a shelter, they say im too young. Why do adults think that kids aren't responsible enough to do things properly?! I'm getting tired of it. I guess i just have to keep trying.

Right, im 14, and I sadly live in Ashington! It has absolutly nothing to do, I mean NOTHING! and all I want to do is to work with animals, help out on a farm or a shelter, anything, its the 6 weeks, and its a week into them, and im SO bored its unreal! when your 13 you can volunteer at the Humane Society in Pasadena. That's what im gonna do when i 13 but for now im volunteering @ a women's club and soon a Soup Kitchen.

Hey guys if anyone is interested i have 2 horses and my dad owns a dog shelter we need volunteer workers and if your any good we pay you!
and if your interested in my horses you can do whatever you want to them and pretend there yours!!
The horses are called Jacko and Gamble they are very amazing!

i'm 12 as well so my way round this is my friends dad is opening up a campsite but is offering kenneling facilires( hes doing so as there is a lot of restranut around but you can't take dogs) so me and his sonand my mate are ggoing to help run the kennel bit we will clean out the rooms and take th dogs on short walks. also his dad sad he'll pays us but only a small price.

Try your local Adoption Branch of the animal control for your state. In Indianapolis you only have to be twelve. I will be volunteering there this summer. They have multiple options but due to my young age I will probably be washing dogs or scooping litter, but that is fine with me.:)

I really want to help save animals..I'm a hard worker! I did many jobs in my life. My hands are rough and I need a job to souport my family. The jobs I have done in my life are: Wash cars, clean houses, help people, and baby sit. I need a job that will help me please tell me anything I need make $1+ Please! I beg you! I need at least buy a little something to help my family.. I don't want to be on the streets my mom can't work nor my brother! I *NEED* Help that pays for at least a "Top-Roman" PLEASE!!I'm 12 turning 13 next week.
