Volunteer work for a 12 year old. Please help!

I am 12 years old and I live in Fort Lauderdale Florida. I really want to do some volunteer work, but every one says that I am too young. Can I volunteer? And, if I can, can you please give me some examples or places I can look to? Thank you so much!
